Kaffarat & Darajat

Assalam alaikum,

Imam Ahmad said that Muadh said,

One day the Messenger of Allah was delayed from praying Fajr until we
could see the start of the rising of the sun. The Messenger then came
hurriedly and the call to prayer was made. He prayed and when we made
the salam he said, `stay as you are in your rows'. He then turned to
us and said,

`I will tell you what kept me back this morning. Verily I stood in
prayers last night and I prayed for as long as it was written for me
to pray. I then started to feel sleepy and fell asleep. Suddenly I was
standing in front of Allah in my best appearance'

Allah asked, `O Muhammad, what are the angels disputing?'

I said, `I do not know, my Lord'

Again Allah asked, `O Muhammad, what are the angels disputing?'

Again I said, `I do not know, my Lord'

Then I saw Allah place his hands between my shoulders until I felt the
coolness of his fingertips between my chest and everything was made
manifest to me and I knew.

So again Allah asked, `O Muhammad, what are the angels disputing?'

I said, `It is regarding Kaffaraat (deeds which remove sins) and the
Darajaat (deeds which raise a person's rank in the hereafter)'.

Allah then asked, `What are the Kafaraat?'

I said, `Moving the feet towards the Friday prayers, sitting in the
mosque after the prayers and performing ablution in difficult conditions'

Allah then asked, `What are the Darajaat?'

I said, `Having pleasant speech and praying while other people are
sleeping'

Allah then said, `Ask'

And I said, `O Allah! I ask of you the ability to do good deeds, the
ability to abandon bad deeds, to love the poor, for You to forgive me,
for You to have mercy on me, and whenever you want to put a people to
trial, let them die without a difficult condition, I ask You for Your
love, the love of those who love you, and the love of those deeds that
bring me closer to Your love'

The Prophet then finished his narration of the previous nights events
and said, `Indeed this is the truth so study it and teach it'

[Narrated by Tirmidhi who said the hadith is Sahih]

N.B. The wisdom behind loving the poor is that loving the poor is the
foundation of loving Allah because the poor do not possess anything
which can make people love them, except loving them solely for the
love of Allah.

May Allah Almighty help us all take benefit from the Kafaraat and the
Darajaat, amen!
crystalclear

Assalamualaikum

Ameen InshaAllah
