Assalaamu 'alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Having read The Broken Chain & the Purification of the Heart - I can honestly say that they are both EXCELLENT reads for anyone serious on the path towards Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala.

The broken chain is an eye opener for anyone who may be learning about Islam and its unbroken chain of transmission. It will clear up so many issues that you may have in our modern times, the only downfall at present is that it is out of print! I have spoken to the author and he mentioned that there are no plans at present to reprint it - perhaps you may find it on Amazon or even Ebay?

The second book is very important in that it goes through the main diseases of Nafs-ul Ammarah - such as bukhl (stinginess), Riyaa, Ghadab, Hasad, Ostentation, Pride, Tul-ul emel (long hopes), fantasizing etc etc.
The sheikh (Imam Mawlud) has written it in poem form, descrbing each haslet (characteristic), and then giving some references etc, and finally giving the cure to the disease.

For those who may not have this book - since it's usually out of print and 'very' popular around the world - Sheikh Hamza has excellent translation skills maashaAllah - and is well versed in both Arabic and English - you may wish to buy a book called 'Purification of the Soul'. It is a compilation of the writings of three of Islam's great scholars - namely, Imam Al Ghazali rahimahullah, Imam Ibn Qayyim al Jawziyy(ah - I can't remember if it's the prior or the latter sheikh) rahimahullah and Imam Ibn Rajab al Hanbali rahimahullah.
A great introduction to the process of tarbiyyah, tazkiyyah and ta'lim for any serious student out there.

You can find this book online also I believe, however I have seen it at IBC and even at Jefcott street masjid. We studied this text and it is highly beneficial for any beginner in the science of Ihsan.

Fi Amanillah

Wassalaamu 'alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Abu Khadijah
